How to Remove Spy Software from Your Cell Phone

So you believe someone has put spy software on your phone and now you want to know how to get rid of it. When you follow a few simple steps, it is usually pretty simple. This post is part of a series on How to Spot Spy Software, How to Secure Your Cell Phone, and How to Remove Spy Software that I’ve written.

People who want to learn how to remove cell phone monitoring or spying apps usually fall into two categories: those who installed the software and those who are being watched! Which of the two are you?

When you’ve finished installing the software,

You will have access to the Control Panel and the website if you were the one who installed the spy software in the first place. The majority of the major corporations offer thorough material on their websites that will walk you through the uninstalling procedure.

Some programs, such as SPY24, allow you to accomplish this remotely. This is commonly accomplished by sending a coded text message to the target phone, which causes the software to be uninstalled automatically. The text codes for uninstalling the software can be found in the program members’ control panel; they vary by software source.

Of course, you will not have access to this information if you have been the victim of cell phone spy software and have discovered it on your phone.

You can’t use the spy software since you don’t have access to it.

Even if you don’t have access to any hidden, monitoring, or tracking software on your smartphone, you can still uninstall it. Depending on your level of technical expertise, there are a few options.

If you don’t want to mess about with your phone, you can take it to a local cell phone shop and get it restored to factory settings.

Most will do it for free or for a little fee, and they should be able to backup and restore any of your phone’s saved data, including contacts and e-mails.

You can also contact your service provider for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

Reset the factory settings

Any spy software will be removed if the phone is reset to factory settings. It essentially wipes your phone clean, so make a backup of everything you want to save. You can do it yourself, and it’s usually as simple as pressing a few buttons on most phones.

The procedure varies by phone, but you can find information on how to perform a factory reset on your phone’s support website or by conducting a simple Google search.

Each model of the phone will have a somewhat different procedure, so you’ll need to do some research. Usually, you would go to settings – privacy – factory reset.

Just keep in mind that restoring your apps automatically may result in the software being reinstalled. You’ll be OK if you manually reinstall any software you require. Contacts, emails, and other information can be safely restored from a backup.

It’s a simple procedure that anyone can complete. It is a certain approach to get rid of any surveillance software from your phone.

Updating Your Operating System to Get Rid of Spyware

Another option is to update the phone’s operating system, which is a little easier for most individuals (firmware). This will erase any spy software from your phone and have the same effect as a factory reset.

Before you do this, make sure you have a complete backup of your data. This procedure is usually quite straightforward. If your phone already has the most recent OS installed, you can roll back to a previous version before reinstalling the most recent OS.

Manually Uninstall Spy Apps

Cell phone spy software can be manually removed by going into the phone’s file system and deleting the software program files. This is a little more challenging because most people won’t recognize the correct files, and there’s a chance you’ll delete files that are required for the phone to function properly.

You may miss something and not completely remove the spy software with this procedure, thus I usually propose either a factory reset or an OS upgrade to ensure that the spyware is completely gone.

How to Uninstall Spyware on an iPhone

There is a simple technique to get rid of surveillance software on your iPhone. Any external (non-Apple) software that runs on an iPhone must be Jailbroken – see my article on Jailbreaking an iPhone for more information.

The software will be deleted if the jailbreak is removed. You can un jailbreak your device by updating the operating system – IOS 5.1.1, 7.1, and so on. The good news is that Apple has made this quite simple for iPhone users. You can quickly backup your phone and upgrade your iOS via iTunes while also removing the jailbreak.

Remember that when you upgrade your iOS and remove the jailbreak, all non-Apple apps or software will be gone as well. If you want to run non-Apple apps again, you can re-apply the jailbreak, safe in the knowledge that the spy phone software has been deleted.

Prevention is preferable to cure.

Removing spy phone software is simple, and the procedures listed above are successful in getting rid of any covert tracking or monitoring apps from your phone. Although the procedure is simple, it will be inconvenient.

It will take some time to backup and restore any vital saved data and software packages that you require. It’s far preferable to take a few easy precautions to protect your phone in the first place. What will prevent it from occurring again once you’ve removed the software? You’ve already been a victim; don’t make the same mistake twice.

Who Needs to Protect Their Phone?

People who have had a security breach on their phones are the most common category of people who want to learn how to secure their phones. People who have had their phones hacked or who have been the victims of surveillance software programs such as SPY24, T-SPY, SpyFamily, or XNSPY.

Simple Steps to Keeping Your Phone Safe

The first is the most obvious: never give your phone to anyone else. A surveillance app can be installed in less than 5 minutes by someone with some knowledge. Remember, that individual will most likely be someone you know and trust!

Protect and Lock Your Phone Using a Password

This is by far the most simple and efficient method of protecting your phone from spy malware. It’s amazing how many individuals don’t use even the most simple password option on their phones. How many of us still unlock our phones with # or * plus any key?

A simple locking password that only you know can completely safeguard your phone. It’s so basic, but it’s your best defense. This feature is available on all safe cell phone lock phones, but you can take it a step further with password management and phone locking apps.

Apps to Secure Your Phone

Make sure your phone is set to automatically lock if you don’t want it to be found unlocked and open. If you want a little more than the default mobile phone settings, there are some wonderful apps for Android and iPhone that offer one-click locking and automatic locking.

Screen Off and Lock, as well as Lock Screen Widget, are two free apps worth checking out if you want to safeguard and completely lock your phone.

Installing an app like Mind Wallet (free) or mSecure Password Manager for better password management is a good idea (paid app). There are a plethora of options to choose from, some of which provide a high level of protection through encryption and secure password generation.

When selecting an app, look for those with a large number of downloads and positive user reviews. Look for phone security apps in the Google Play Store and the Apple Store.

My Personal Favorite Security Measure

A simple tool like AppNotifier, which is accessible on Google Play, can provide an extra layer of security. If any new software or apps are downloaded on your Smartphone, this app will send you an email notification. The program is free, but if you want to skip the obnoxious advertisements, you may upgrade to the paid version for roughly $1.

How to Protect Your iPhone from Spying Software

The majority of the steps outlined above will assist you in making your iPhone more secure, and several apps can assist you. Spy apps on the iPhone have one major flaw: they can only be installed on a jailbroken device.

Your iPhone will be free of spy phone tracking software if it is not jailbroken. Remember that merely updating the OS will delete any jailbreak – as well as any surveillance software. If you believe you are at risk, make sure to update your iPhone’s operating system regularly.

The majority of these security measures can be implemented for free or at a low cost. There are many commercial mobile phone security apps available, but I believe that for the majority of individuals, these will suffice and provide adequate protection against spy stop spy malware.

For most people, simply having a secret password and putting your phone locked automatically will be enough to prevent spy software from being installed on their phone.

While using programs to encrypt voice or text communications can give an extra layer of security, it will not prevent someone from downloading spy phone software in the first place.

Remember that an amateur will almost always target you, someone you know, and that modest security measures will frequently be enough to deter them.
